ELECTIONS

Name:         Sean Aiken

School:        Shaler Middle School

Position:      Assistant Principal

 

Biography & Statement of Intent:

I will work to promote the philosophy of middle level education.  I will serve on the Western Board to help insure that information is dispersed to as many middle level educators a possible.   I will attend regional board meetings on a consistent and regular basis and will support the goals, mission, and vision of the middle level association. 

 

I wish to serve on the PMSA regional board for several different reasons.  I hope to work collaboratively with other educators on providing professional development opportunities that will support and promote middle level education.  I hope to gain valuable experience while working closely with seasoned veterans of middle level education.  I also hope to serve on this board to demonstrate and inspire other educators with whom I work closely with to serve and work on committees and teams such as this. 

Name:         Megan Huchko

School:        West Allegheny Middle School

Position:      Professional Educator

 

Biography & Statement of Intent:

I have been teaching in the West Allegheny School District for eight years.  I have attended West Allegheny as a student and have strong ties to the community.  Part of my commitment to PMSA would be to represent my school, my district, and all professionals dealing with topics of middle school concerns by attending all meetings, giving feedback and suggestions to promote and support the goals of PMSA.

 

I hope to become a valuable resource for my school and district while promoting middle level education, it’s philosophy, and best practices.  I wish to develop a deeper understanding of how young adolescents learn and share my knowledge with my colleagues.  I also look forward to the opportunity to network with teachers across the region and state to strengthen middle level education.

 

Name:         Valeria Prevade

School:        West Allegheny Middle School

Position:      Professional Educator

 

Biography & Statement of Intent:

I have been teaching at the West Allegheny Middle School for 3 years.  I am committed to represent my school and support all goals of the PMSA.  As a board member, I will attend all meetings and give feedback and suggestions to help reach the PMSA goals.  I feel that this opportunity will strengthen me as I grow in my professional career.

 

I wish to serve on the PMSA regional board to become an asset and resource to my school district.  I hope to develop a better understanding of middle level students by attending all meetings, giving and receiving feedback and engaging in professional discussions.  I also look forward to sharing and receiving knowledge to increase my practices as a middle level teacher.

 

Name:         Marc R. Mayer

School:        Founders Hall

Position:      8th Grade Reading Teacher

 

Biography & Statement of Intent:

As a dedicated instructor, my goal is to further my knowledge and instruction in the area of the middle level child.  As a leader.  I will support the goals of PMSA and Strive to make the organization the best that it can be.  I feel that this goal can be achieved by meeting with regional board members and sharing information regularly.  I pledge to work as hard as I can to keep the Pennsylvania Middle School Association moving towards improving the quality of education in Pennsylvania.

 

As a middle level educator and a reading specialist, I am very excited that educational instruction has evolved from the traditional book and paper, to state of the art, interactive lessons in which students are the primary facilitators in their learning experiences.  Being a younger teacher. I am concerned about what direction education is heading.  As a PMSA board member. I would welcome the challenge of working for teachers just like me, who are constantly striving to improve their craft and present the best possible learning experience for every one of their students.

Below are listed the candidates running for election in both the Western and Eastern Regions.  Ballots will be mailed to region members in February.  The ballots will then be tallied and new regional board members will be sworn in at the March PMSA Conference in State College.
