Reports from the PMSA Regions

           The Central Region will hold its first meeting of the 2005-06 school year at Park Forest Middle School in the State College Area School District on Wednesday, September 21, 2005.  Several new members have been invited to attend this meeting.  They are from several schools who have not previously been involved with PMSA, other than through institutional memberships so we are excited to have them join our group.  On the meeting agenda will be membership issues, NMSA 2005 Philadelphia discussion and a review of highlights from the Executive Board meeting.  Anyone interested in becoming involved with PMSA in the Central Region is urged to contact Marybeth Irvin, President, at 717-248-0179 or mdi34@mcsdk12.org.

             Welcome back to another fantastic school year and an exciting year with PMSA.  The Eastern Region Board is excited for the upcoming year and the many conferences, services, and benefits that the Pennsylvania Middle School Association has to offer.  We are especially looking forward to the upcoming National Middle School Association Conference in November in the city of Philadelphia.

             Kutztown University will be offering daily shuttle service to the NMSA conference in Philadelphia for only $15.00.  Information for this shuttle service can be found on the PMSA website. 

The Eastern Region Board last met in Hershey on May 12, 2005.  Items discussed at our last meeting included the development of new regions within the East, parent workshops, PMSA and NMSA conferences as well as ways to increase membership. We also discussed the latest updates to the PMSA website.  The website has been updated to highlight MOYA and the East Region has added the names of the Intermediate Units and PMSA member schools found in the East.  You can now check to see what schools in your county are PMSA member schools.  Recruiting new schools to become members will be an initiative this year.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate those board members newly elected into positions on the Eastern Region Board.  Paul Meck, Mechanicsburg Middle School, as President-Elect; Susan Breslin, Chambersburg Area Middle School, as Recording Secretary; Kathy Johnson, Brandywine Heights Middle School, as Executive Secretary; Robert Houghton, Conestoga Valley Middle School, as Treasurer; and Suzanne DiBianca, Ridley Middle School, for the Public Relations position.

We are continuing to look for interested members from any of the proposed regions in the East who may be willing to get more involved in PMSA.  It is important for us to continue to pursue any members who currently work in the East; IU’s 14, 20, 21 & 29, the Northeast; IU’s 16, 17, 18, & 19, the South Central; IU’s 12, 13, & 15, and the Southeast; IU’s 22, 23, 24, 25, & 26.  If you have an interest in helping us to develop those proposed regions, please contact me at j_singleton@easdpa.org.  If you have any ideas of how we can better serve our current members as well as how we can increase membership, please let us know.  Our next meeting will be held at the Milton Hershey School on Thursday, September 22.
