The Pennsylvania Middle School Association’s Executive Board worked long and hard to develop the strategic plan that will carry the organization into the future.  The purpose of the plan is to identify areas that we are proud of and wish to maintain and also to identify areas that need to be enhanced in order to better deliver services and to meet the needs of our membership.  The following are the goals with the action items listed for each area:

The strategic plan will help PMSA continue its growth and development as an affiliate of the National Middle School Association.  Additionally, PMSA wishes to include its membership in this process.  To accomplish this, regular reports will be produced to examine the progress in each of the goal areas.  These reports will be posted on the PMSA web site, listed in newsletters and included in the year end report which will be published.  If you wish to make suggestions, please visit the PMSA webpage at www.pmsaweb.org to provide your input.  We want to hear from our membership.

 

Quick Notes:

Æ PMSA will be represented at a round table discussion with the Pennsylvania State Board of Education’s Chapter 49 Committee on teacher certification.

Æ New online staff development will be offered to PMSA members at a reduced cost.  This is a new membership benefit.  More information will be forwarded to PMSA members.

Æ PMSA is exploring special packages for its membership in the areas of pre-paid legal services, credit card theft and health care insurance.

Goal #1 – Increase Membership

1. Investigate advertising in teacher publications

2. Survey members regarding membership needs

3. Investigate purchase of mailing lists

4. Investigate reaching novice practitioners

Goal #2 – To increase and improve internal and external communication of the mission of PMSA

1. Utilize list serve database and mailings

2. Gather and maintain distribution lists

3. Expand the scope of the newsletter to include articles, strategies, and practical applications for our readership.

4. Publish an annual report for membership distribution

5. Create new features to enhance existing website

6. Extend personal contacts to targeted individuals, schools, and districts to increase awareness of PMSA

7. Contact PCN TV to explore the possibility of creating a promotional video for distribution and/or broadcast

Goal #3 – Establish collaborative relationships with other educational organizations

(PSEA, PASCD, PAESSP, AFT, PTO, TA)

1. Send bundle of newsletters with letter of introduction

2. Make personal contact/ follow up with officers of other organizations

3. Invite officers of other organizations to board meetings/conferences

4. Collaborative Meeting

5. Post and trade links with other educational organizations

6. List of critical contact people at IU’s and organizations

7. Set up vendor tables at state conferences PASD, PAESSP, PTA
