Mr. Michael Arbogast

Ed Smith is a founder of Middle School Education and a member of the Western Region Area and PMSA for many years.  The Western Region, in honor of Ed Smith’s retirement and contributions to Middle Level Education, established the Western Region Ed Smith Staff Award.  This award honors a staff member who upholds the true beliefs of Middle Level Education.  The award was presented at the Western Region Conference, January 15, 2007 at Shaler Area Middle School (SAMS).  Mr. Sean Aiken, the Assistant Principal, orchestrated and hosted the conference this year for all 450 attendees from the Western Region.

 

Mr. Michael Arbogast is a 7th grade Science teacher at Highland Middle School in the Blackhawk School District.  He is currently in his 5th year of teaching.  He is the team leader and a member of the school district’s Science Curriculum Committee.  He is a leader both inside the classroom an on the athletic field.  His coaching experience includes;  Girl’s Varsity Basketball Assistant, freshman Assistant Football Coach and middle school Track.  He attended Duquesne University where he received his degree in Secondary Education in General Science.  He later earned his Masters Degree in Administration from the University of Pittsburgh.  His future plans include pursuing his Administrative Letter of Eligibility.

 

The principal of Highland Middle School, Mrs. Nancy Bowman applauds his dedication to students daily.  Additionally, his positive rapport with students impacts their lives and helps them to achieve their goals.  He is an excellent teacher and has demonstrated tremendous leadership in many educational endeavors throughout his teaching career.  He seeks out positive constructive relationships and communications with young adolescents in a variety of environments.
