Greetings from the Western Region,
It is with extreme pleasure and pride that I serve in the capacity as the President of the Western Region for PMSA. It is a collaborative effort working with professional colleagues and dedicated educators as a supportive team focused on middle level education in our region.
My goals for the Western Region are to expand working professional relationships between all board members and active membership in our region; enhancing our organization through technology initiatives; along with developing greater capacity for our Regional Board members to take active roles in our Executive State Board Strategic Plan throughout the year.
Our regional membership understands the focus on the total child in the middle level. Young adolescents are experiencing a great deal of change during their middle school career. Middle schools are intentionally designed to meet the needs of young adolescents they serve with regard to intellectual, social, physical and emotional needs of a child in a rigorous and challenging academic program. Western Region board members are committed to enhancing the positive, learning climate to maximize learning opportunities for all children. Our focus is to offer professional development institutes for educators in middle schools, encourage active partnerships between colleagues and support continued interest in the middle level child.
We are hosting this year’s PDI at New Brighton Middle School under the leadership team of Mr. Julian Underwood, Principal. Save the date on your calendar for the Western Region Professional Development Institute, to be held on Monday, January 16, 2012. Please visit our website pmsaweb.org for further details on the Western Region PDI for information, presentations and vendors that will be featured. We are always looking for people who would like to become involved in PMSA. If you are interested, please feel free to contact me at fordr@bsd.k12.pa.us
